Women Entrepreneurship:

What is Women Entrepreneurship?

Women entrepreneurship is the process in which women initiate a business, gather all resources, undertake risks, face challenges, provide employment to others, and manage the business independently. There has been a change in the role of women due to growth in education, urbanization, industrialization, and awareness of democratic values.

In India, the participation of women as industrial entrepreneurs has increased since the 70s. The majority of them are engaged in unorganized sectors like agro-based industries, handicrafts, handloom, and cottage-based industries.

The government of India has defined a women entrepreneur as “an enterprise owned and controlled by a woman having a minimum financial interest of 51% of the capital and giving at least 51% of the employment generated in the enterprise to women”.
