PM Modi at COP28 Summit
Modi engaged with his Italian counterpart during the sidelines of the global climate summit, emphasizing India and Italy’s shared vision for a sustainable and prosperous future. “Looking ahead to collaborative endeavors between India and Italy for a sustainable and prosperous future,” stated PM Modi.
In addition to addressing the opening session of the COP28 summit and the high-level segment for heads of state/government, Modi participated in various key sessions. He attended the Presidency’s session on Transforming Climate Finance, a high-level event on the Green Credits Programme, and a Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT).
Besides meeting Meloni, PM Modi also held bilateral discussions with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Israel President Isaac Herzog, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, French President Emmanuel Macron, and the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Giorgia Meloni’s Maiden India Visit
In March of this year, the Italian Prime Minister made her inaugural visit to India and lauded PM Modi, describing him as the most esteemed among global leaders. “PM Modi is the most esteemed among all (leaders) worldwide. This is a genuine testament to his role as a significant leader, and congratulations for that,” she expressed at the time.
PM Modi, in turn, congratulated Meloni for her historic feat of becoming Italy’s first woman and youngest Prime Minister. “I extend a warm welcome to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on her maiden visit to India. In the previous year’s elections, the people of Italy voted for her, and she emerged as the first woman and youngest Prime Minister of Italy. On behalf of Indians, I extend heartfelt congratulations to her for this momentous accomplishment,” stated Modi.
